To be fair, it's a great plant to grow - it's dramatic and it is lovely in the night time garden. But it's also a bugger to get started. We had some, but they had migrated and I didn't know quite where they had gone. A customer was asking for them and in my haste, when I asked Jake where they'd gone, words escaped me and I found myself miming what I needed.
This meant I was depicting a string and, um, something else. Absolutely cracking up, he yelled, "Moon 'em and string 'em!"
And from then on, moonflower had a new name at Picture Perfect.
I have a small obelisk that I'd been using to keep lilies upright, but was bored with that look, so when I saw moonflower seeds, I thought, "Well, why not? Moon 'Em and String 'Em would be pretty on that thing." All set to sow the seeds in the garden, I decided, on a lark, to read the instructions. For best results soak seeds overnight. I promptly dumped them into a bowl, added water and then the rains began.
It rained all week, as a matter of fact, and the seeds just continued to soak. Today I realized they were starting to sprout like beans in a science experiment, so I planted them in a couple of cell packs to see how many would actually sprout for me.
Stay tuned.
Meanwhile, Jake is returning to Texas from his last trip to Cancun for spectacular dental work. This time he and T.D. were accompanied by his sister and their posts show they had a great time. I was jealous until she said how hot Tulum was. I'm guessing the best time to visit has yet to be determined, because it was pretty sticky there in September, too. It's okay. The point is to be there with La Familiglia - to eat, drink, play Mexican Train dominoes and help little turtles make their way to the sea.
In the meantime, in our family, we have welcomed a new baby boy, Andrew Louis. He gets his middle name from his great-grandfather, aka Louie da Lip. My nephew is such a softie...but we always knew that. He's like his grandfather; he's good with babies. Here at the Sprawl, we wish the family well and hope the big sisters will be happy for another playmate!
